Mother's Day

A one-day celebration did not seem to do justice to the events of the past year, so Meredith has declared it "Mother's Month" around here. We were on our way to brunch when our friend David dropped by and took an all-too-rare family photo.

See how Silas is looking to the side in the top photo? When David first tried to take the picture, Silas once again showed intense curiosity about the camera and just stared at it without smiling. We were saved when Chia, the woman who runs our laundromat, happened to be walking by. (Silas has rock-star status at the laundromat.) Chia started clowning around to get Silas to smile, waving and calling "Silan! Silan!" or maybe "Simon! Simon!" -- we aren't quite sure what she calls him, but it isn't Silas. (The doctor's office once referred to him as "Sillas," as in window sill.) That's all right -- you expect some mistakes when you name your kid Silas.
