I funny!

Kids are funny by default. Their combination of cuteness and inexperience is always good for a laugh.

Silas, in addition to being unintentionally funny by default, is also deliberately funny. He's been making pretty decent jokes for about two years now.

At six months, he'd hold up a cheerio as if to feed you. But right when you leaned over to eat it, he'd snatch it away and start cackling.

One of Silas's current jokes is to run straight at you with arms outstretched for a big hug. You open your arms to hug him back -- but at the last minute, he veers to the side and blows right past you, yukking it up.

When Silas knows he's made a good joke, he announces: "I funny!"

Jokes made at a parent's expense may be the best evidence of a two-year-old's individuality. I always find it shocking -- in a good way -- to realize that Silas understands enough about life to make a joke out of it, and understands enough about other people to know how to make them laugh.

Here is Silas pretending to be mad:

Here are some of Silas's recent jokes:

---

(Walking past a garbage can.)
Silas: "Can I eat that garbage? I want some."
Us: "Silas, what? No! You can't--"
Silas: "I funny!"

---

"Dada, your hair is little!"

---

Conversation among adults: "What time is it?"
Silas: "It's five sixty-five. No -- it's twenty three-four-three-three!"

---
