Birth Day

It's Silas's birthday tomorrow -- he will be two years old. But as all mothers know, it will also be the anniversary of Meredith's awe-inspiring hard work. Two years ago, late on a Sunday morning, Meredith brought Silas into this world after a long night at St. Luke's.

A mother's work never ends, especially when that mother is a doctor. It's difficult to describe just how hard residency is. Meredith regularly works 70- to 80-hour weeks, sometimes more, and she pulls all-nighters about three times a month -- only to come home to the constant work of raising a child. To watch her success at residency and parenting over the past two years has been truly amazing.

It's also amazing to watch how quickly Meredith can fall asleep on the floor.

Tomorrow we're pulling out all the stops for our wonderful two-year-old; come back soon for pictures of cake eating and present opening. Meredith, for all her hard work, gets a short blog post, which she will hopefully enjoy, and not be too embarrassed about.
