Since Silas's birth, we've used a great Sony Handycam. But its videos are of such high quality that they're too big to download.
Luckily my friend Joe works at Pure Digital, maker of the Flip Video. He sent us a complimentary camcorder so that everyone in the Silas blog's vast audience will run out and purchase a Flip. I have to say, after using it this morning, I am completely in love with it. It's ridiculously easy to use, and not much bigger than a cell phone.
At the local library today, Silas and Aravah were cutely following each other around. Aravah's dad said it was too bad we didn't have a video camera. I pulled the Flip out of my pocket and said Voila! or words to that effect.
Here's the Flip:

Wow, I'm not sure which is a more exciting milestone, Silas' walking or Todd's move up to video. Let's call it a tie.
Totally amazing how much bigger their world gets when they can walk.
Todd, I do think you have some practicing to do w/ the Flip Video. Seems like Silas was in the process of wiping out at the end of the second video, but we'll never know b/c your parental instincts apparently overrode your video-journalist instincts. 2009 Developmental Goal for you: Keep the camera running.
PS - Silas is super cute. If you're still polling people on the haircut issue, we vote to keep the curls going. (meaning you'll have to overcome your envy)
Luckily the library's rug was pretty soft, so Silas made a quick recovery. I can see an argument that Silas's ability to walk wasn't seriously in doubt, whereas my ability to upload video was totally unexpected -- and therefore I should win the award for milestone excitement. But it turns out that, due to diminishing returns, it's impossible to compete with a one-year-old. Everyone wants to see Milestone #10. No one wants to see Milestone #10,000.
It is so cool to watch Silas walk so far and so well! I feel lucky to have seen him a few weeks ago when he was still in the learning phases. Way to go Silas!
