Tummy Time

Silas is supposed to spend about thirty minutes a day on his stomach, to build up his neck and back muscles. The books call it "tummy time." Silas calls it "torture time." He really, really hates being on his stomach. He grunts, whines, cries, and screams his way through the whole ordeal. We shoot for five minutes of tummy time a day, and figure we'll spot him the extra twenty-five minutes.

This week Silas finally had some tummy time where he wasn't howling. Granted, he doesn't look happy -- but at least he's not acting as if he's about to be drawn and quartered.

Our friend Max asked, "Where are the grown adults who continue to flop around on their stomachs because they never got enough 'tummy time' as a child?"

I probably missed this in an earlier posting, but who made the quilt in the tummy time photo? I love the NYC subway fabric.

Carolyn Coffee made the quilt -- the Coffees are family friends from Washington. Carolyn asked for theme suggestions; the subway came up and she managed to work it in. Other elements in the quilt are trains, blocks, and baseball.

She did an amazing job. I can't wait to see your handmade gifts in person. Quilts are a lot of work!

Todd, Two bits which are totally unrelated. First, Chris has dropped the thank you ball of which he was in charge. Thank you very much for the Stax cds. Your name was not on the invoice and I had to track down the sender via Amazon ( a 4 step process) and learned it was you. Thank you for the very cool cd. Now the relative part: Silas is a reflux baby and reflux babies HATE tummy time. It hurts. Don't worry, Max is right, he'll figure it out on his own and will not be a flopper in preschool. Plus, ask your folks and Meredith's dad when y'all started motating. It will give you the best indication as to when Silas will start moving. Good luck. And I LOVE the Obama shirt. Too cute.
