Fathers' Day

Just for fun, here we all are from the same time last year:

If you look closely, you can see that Grandpa Keithley is in fact wearing different shirts in these two pictures.

Last year the Grandparents Keithley were in town around Father's Day, with many others, for Meredith's graduation. This year they were in town to help us during the pell-mell end of Meredith's intern year at Columbia. A fortunate side-effect is that we've had two multi-generational Fathers' Days.

Today marks the beginning of Silas's 21st month, and his rate of change continues to surprise us. He's begun stringing three and even four words together, telling us things like "Take the bib -- off!" and "Stop the rain" and "I eat more." (Then there's the always welcome two-word sentence "I poop.") It's also nice to have Silas understand what we're saying to him, such as, "It's 4:30 in the morning, and it's still dark outside, so you really, really need to go back to sleep."

Silas has also become fascinated by letters. He knows the capitals and shouts their names out whenever he sees them: "P!" "A!" "S!" And if he sees a lot of letters clumped together in one place, he says "A-B-C-D-E! A-B-C-D-E!" What you learn walking around with Silas is that more things have letters on them than you think.
